Worship Through Songs
Good day dear Saints of the Lord—members of Christ’s body.
God’s ways are not our ways. This, the old prophets know and declare. This, the Son of God embodied and lived out.
Jesus declared that his kingdom is not of this world and does not operate according to the principles of the world. His ways are not our ways nor his thoughts our thoughts. Though this does not mean that the Infinitely High God who inhabits eternity is utterly unknowable and completely beyond comprehension; it does mean that the working out of God’s plans frequently escape our rational grasp and often appears to us as impractical or unreasonable.
We can see this in Jesus’ plan to expand his kingdom through his ‘ragtag’ band of weak, fumbling and often bickering followers through the ages. Though He could have done it himself—with the aid of the Angelic Host—far more efficiently, He instead entrusted the great task of transforming the world to men and women of varying abilities and often questionable credentials. People whom the world would probably deem unqualified and whose only ground for inclusion is based solely on Christ’s generous invitation.
Our Lord has chosen to change the world through his community of Christ-followers—displaying his sufficiency through their insufficiency—his power through their weakness. This ‘good and beautiful community’, described James Bryan Smith, is marked by its being ‘peculiar; hopeful; serving; and Christ-centered’. It is also a communion characterized as ‘reconciling; encouraging; generous; and worshipful’.
Christ’s body, the Church should be peculiar in that it ‘dances to the beat of a different drum’ from the rest of the world; it is hopeful in that each one is a bearer and sharer of God’s hope through the gospel; it is a family whose members seek to serve each other’s needs first, and a society that seeks Christ-centered unity rather than mere practical consensus and uniformity.
It is also a fellowship that embodies Christ’s forgiveness and reconciliation; that builds up rather than tear each other down; that lives and gives generously and that worshipfully radiates the praises of Him who is worthy of all glory, honor and blessing.
As the body of Christ, his beloved bride, this is who we are—not because we are totally blameless in our behavior or consistent in our commitments, but because Jesus Christ, the Lover of our Souls, has decreed it, promised it, and sealed it with his Holy Spirit. It is indeed a good and beautiful community, not because we, its members, are inherently good or beautiful, but because the good and beautiful God himself is dwelling among and within us.
We thus have every reason to hold on to his pledge that He who began this awesome work in our lives—individually and corporately—is faithful to complete it for our deepest joy and his highest glory.
‘Dear Lord Jesus—precious Author and Perfecter of our faith,
You have loved is with a love like no other:
It is a love that endures despite our own inconsistency and unfaithfulness.
It is a love that heals all our brokenness even if that brokenness has caused You and others numerous heartaches.
It is a love that will not let go even when we, in our many moments of weakness, were ready to do so.
Help us oh Divine Restorer to freely receive your love and live under its reality every moment of our lives. Enable us to experience what it means to follow your command to love one another as You have loved us—so that in doing so, others will take notice and realize that the risen Christ is indeed alive and well and is still the Light of this World. Then they will see that we are truly one in You; and know that we indeed belong to You and will, perhaps, desire to be yours as well.
In your most blessed Name we pray, amen.’

Scripture Reading
Colossians 3 : 12 – 14 (ESV)
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
