Worship Through Songs

Good day dear people of God—blessed bearers of the Living Hope in Christ.

Our salvation in Christ encompasses all of life. Not only is it comprehensive in that it covers every aspect of life; it is also enduring in that it is a process that takes a lifetime and more. Theologians have labeled the various aspects of our redemption by different terms: justification is the immediate decree of God that we are declared righteous in Christ; sanctification is God’s transforming work to make us more like Christ; while glorification is the culmination whereby, we shed all remnants of our mortal frame— along with all the sinful relics of the old nature—and be with Christ forever in our glorified immortal bodies.

However, between our new birth and the eschatological new creation, is the necessary and often painful process of growth—as God calls us to become all that He intended us to be; and to do all the good things He planned for us to do. Thus, we find in Scripture numerous admonitions to abide, to be faithful, and to persevere.

Writing about perseverance, Bill Mills, in his book, Pursuing God: Finding our Fulness in Christ, wrote, “God calls us to run with perseverance the race that is set before us…So many things along the way could distract us: Pleasures in this world could consume us; difficulties in relationships could cause us to lose heart. Because of this, the race to which we are called cannot be run on the basis of speed, personality, or style. This race is eternally significant. The objective is to finish; endurance is the character quality most needed to finish the race.”

He continues, “When we look at the Son of God and all that He endured in order to please His Father and to redeem our lives, we are encouraged. All that we face in the way of temptations and difficult circumstances does not begin to compare to the path He walked before us. Now He lives within us, giving us the resources to continue to walk when our own strength is gone.”

In all of this, Christ is everything. He is not only the Alpha and the Omega of all reality, but also source and the culmination of our Christian life as well. He is the foundation on which it is built; the prize at the end of it; and the power that sustains it day by day. He is simply our all in all.

Thus, with Jude, we resound the blessed doxology, “To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”, as we keep our eyes on Him, the author and perfecter of our faith.

“We know from the heavens and the earth that you are all-powerful, utterly wise and everywhere present; Your eternal power and divine nature have clearly been revealed. But it was only through Your special revelation in Scripture that we could know that the One who has dominion over all things is also the Lover of our souls. Your Word is a love letter to the people You created to enjoy forever in loving communion with You.

We thank You for creating and calling us to become conformed to the image of Your Son, and we pray for the grace of holy desire to pursue by Your power what You have called us to become in Christ.

You have called us to participate in Your purposes through the work we have been given to do during our earthly sojourn. May we do our work with care and excellence in the desire to be pleasing to You. We realize that all things become spiritual when they are done in Your Name. May we honor You in our choices and activities and view the works of our hands as a mode of worship. We want whatever we do in thought, word and deed to be honoring to You and edifying to others. We ask for a clearer sense of purpose and calling, and for the power to accomplish that for which You have placed us on this earth.”*

For your glory and delight, in Christ’s Name, amen. *[adapted from Kenneth Boa]

Scripture Reading

Mark 12 : 28 – 34 (ESV)

28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” 32 And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. 33 And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

32 那 文 士 對 耶 穌 說 : 夫 子 說 , 神 是 一 位 , 實 在 不 錯 ; 除 了 他 以 外 , 再 沒 有 別 的 神 ;
