Call To Worship
Psalm 98 : 4 – 6
4 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; 5 make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, 6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—shout for joy before the Lord, the King.
Worship Through Songs
One of the pillars of Reformation theology is Sola Gratia—by grace alone. It underscores the Biblical truth that the fountain of salvation springs ever only from the gracious heart of God: who, in pure mercy, took the initiative to save undeserving sinners—regenerating, justifying, adopting, empowering, transforming, upholding and perfecting those who put their trust in Christ.
It is sometimes easy to forget, however, that God’s grace extends far beyond the initial stages of salvation, and that through our lifetimes we, the redeemed, are in constant need of our Father’s grace. Our sanctification—as surely as our justification—is all by the grace of God. Our growth in Christlikeness, our effectiveness in vocation, as well as our usefulness in ministry, are ultimately due to God’s gracious generosity.
Jared C. Wilson shared a very personal experience of God’s grace in his book The Imperfect Disciple when, at a point in his life, he felt a nagging sense of insufficiency inside his heart despite the external trappings of ministerial success.
“When I had to resign pastoral ministry I felt very vulnerable. My weakness was showing through, and I had to share it (repeatedly) with others looking for an explanation. “God told me,” apparently didn’t work. And I understand why. But the reasons I supposed God was leading me away didn’t seem to make sense to others either. I spoke about my shallow leadership capacity, my inability to see “systems” or keep ahead of the growth of the church. Where everyone else saw success, I was experiencing ever-expanding weakness. They saw all the shiny things floating on the surface of the rising tide, while I felt the waters closing in around my neck and rising up above my nose.
And while I used to think that “doing great things for God” felt like walking on water, I discovered that it very often feels more like drowning.
God was asking me to admit that I could not swim. He was telling me to trust totally in him, not in my own sense of accomplishment and not even in others’ positive appraisal of my ministry.
But the weird thing is, in the spiritual economy of the kingdom you find yourself by losing. You live by dying.
See, I had it backward. I thought God was asking me to lay down pastoral ministry and sit down. But really he was telling me to rise up and walk. He was telling me to lay aside all the things I’d been using, the props if you will, to show my strength and simply follow him that he might be all. That he would be my strength.”
‘That He might be all; that He would be my strength.’ –simple yet profound words for any Christ-follower to ponder and live by. Words that reflect the Apostle Paul’s thoughts expressed in his second letter to the Corinthians where he wrote…
‘So to keep me from becoming conceited … a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’ [2 Corinthians 12:7-10]
In our life-long walk with God, if dependence on him is the goal, then weakness is an advantage. That is why, for the sake of our souls, our loving Father places constant reality checks along our lives—things that soberly remind us of our inherent insufficiency; that cause us to despair of our own merits and trust solely on the merits of Christ, the only truly sufficient One. These ground us to the reality that our salvation and acceptance by him in Christ is all of grace—from beginning to end.
Now and forever, the song of the redeemed will resound to the tune of Sola Gratia and Sola Christus—all by grace alone; all in Christ alone.
Sola Deo Gloria—for the glory of God alone.
‘Gracious God and Generous Father,
We lift up our heart-felt thanks and joy-filled praise for your goodness and grace. Where would we be were it not for your kindness and mercy? Because of Jesus, we stand before you forgiven, accepted, adopted and beloved.
Remind us, now and always that it’s all about You. All of creation; all of life; all of salvation, is all about your love; your grace; your glory; your pleasure. All that we have and all that we are is all because of You, and all for You.
Remind us, this day, and every day as to why we serve You; worship You; and love You. It is that You, our God and Father, are good and that your love for us—yes even us—endures forever!
You are worthy to receive all power, glory, honor, and praise—for all that You are and all that You have done. But first and foremost, among the litany of reasons, is your loving kindness—your gracious generosity—towards us in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.
In whose Name we pray, amen.’

Scripture Reading
For Rev. Danny Reyes
Genesis 8 : 20 – 9 : 7
20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
9 1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.
6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man,
by man shall his blood be shed,
for God made man in his own image.
7 And you, be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it.”

Hebrews 10 : 23 – 25
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
