Call To Worship

Psalm 95 : 6 – 7

6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; 7 for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care. Today, if only you would hear His voice.

Worship Through Songs

Good day precious family of God. May this day find you humbled by the gracious love of our Heavenly Father; and genuinely grateful for every blessing—whether great or small; remarkable or ordinary; personal or communal.

For breath and bread and beds to lie on; for minds and medicine and memorable moments; for friends and feasts and forgiveness of sins; for viands and vaccines and victory over the evil one; for all things and in all things, let’s give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and his love endures forever.

Craig G. Bartholomew, writing about the grand cosmic scope of our salvation in Christ, in his book REVEALING THE HEART OF PRAYER (THE GOSPEL OF LUKE), wrote…

Through Jesus, God is at work recovering his purposes for the whole of his creation and reversing the effect of original sin; while this certainly includes our personal salvation, there is far more to Jesus’ becoming flesh than this. Athanasius evokes the enormity of what God did in Jesus’ life and death by likening his arrival to that of a great king entering some large city and dwelling in one of its houses. That city, he notes, is made worthy of high honor; the king’s residence wards off the very presence of evil. “If a king constructed a house or a city,” he goes on to observe, “and it is attacked by bandits because of the carelessness of its inhabitants, he in no way abandons it, but avenges and saves it as his own work, having regard not for the carelessness of the inhabitants but for his own honor…Jesus’ incarnation and work of redemption are thus far more momentous than we might imagine… In Jesus, the Father is at work recovering his purpose of blessing for his entire creation”.

This is the creation that is groaning under the bondage of sin’s curse, fervently longing for the coming of its rightful King, and for the children of God to be revealed. The same creation represented by the rocks along Jerusalem’s dusty roads which Jesus said would cry out ‘Hosanna’ [‘O save now!’] if ever human voices fell silent. Yes, even inanimate rocks ‘know’ their beloved King and what his coming means—freedom from the curse; the healing of all brokenness; and the restoration to original blessedness—the joy of every longing heart. First for the redeemed sons of men, then trickling its way down to every nook and cranny of the universe until all of heaven and earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord. How then can we keep silent over such a glorious redemption? How then can we withhold praise from such a magnificent Redeemer?

Hosanna indeed! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of YHWH, the LORD! Our victorious Savior King, Jesus Christ!

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Greatest treasure of my longing soul
My God, like You there is no other
True delight is found in You alone

Your grace, a well too deep to fathom
Your love exceeds the heaven’s reach
Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom
My highest good and my unending need

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Strong defender of my weary heart
My sword to fight the cruel deceiver
And my shield against his hateful darts

My song, when enemies surround me
My hope, when tides of sorrow rise
My joy, when trials are abounding
Your faithfulness, my refuge in the night

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Gracious Savior of my ruined life
My guilt and cross laid on Your shoulders
In my place You suffered bled and died

You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
May all my days bring glory to Your Name’*

Amen. * [Nathan Stiff]

Scripture Reading

Psalm 103 (ESV)

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
    bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
    who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13 As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;
he remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass;
    he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word!
21 Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
his ministers, who do his will!
22 Bless the Lord, all his works,
in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
